About Project 11: Form and Use a Support Network!

Forming a complex new stepfamily is challenging! Co-parents must merge 16 aspects of three or more multi-generation biofamilies + evolve up to 15 alien new roles and related rules + progress on up to 30 re-quired adjustment tasks + help adults and kids grieve many concurrent chosen and forced losses + resolve a stream of conflicts over family identity, membership (inclusion), names and titles, values, loyalties, and stressful relationship triangles. This is daunting to most co-parents because they're wounded and under-prepared for the scope and com-plex mix of all these things.

This justifies co-parent Project 11 - accept the high probability of periodic personal and re/marital overwhelm in a new stepfamily, and intentionally develop (a) personal, (b) re/marital, (c) inter-home, and (d) community and professional supports. The good news is - there is now a lot of support available - at least on the Web. The bad news is - most co-parents don't know they need it - or if they do, they have trouble finding it. Average co-parents need to work at 10 or 11 other concurrent Projects to guard against five hazards that promote widespread U.S. re/divorce.
