About Stepfamily Isolation

     In talking with others, new stepfamily members can feel dis-mayed to discover "No one's like us! - we're alone!" In their locale, they may be right, for there are over 100 combinations of structural factors like these (and others):

• divorced before

• first partner died

• has living kids

• has 1 or more teens

• has custody

• has "ours" child/ren

• has adult child/ren

• adopted stepchild

• has grandkid/s

• ex mate re/married

Despite these differences, all stepfamily kids and adults experi- ence common primary problems. When co-parents discover this, they can exchange isolation for nourishing empathy and support.
